A seminar regarding 'Higher Education Opportunities in USA' was held at Senate Hall, Administration Block, Sindh University (SU), Jamshoro, which paved a way for the students of the varsity to avail of the opportunities of getting scholarships to the United States.

US delegation of the consulate in Karachi comprised of Public Affairs Officer Kristin Haworth, Political and Economic chief Annu Patti, Sara Alam attended the seminar whereas Dr Imdad Ali Ismaeli chaired the event. Professor Ghulam Ali Buriro, Professor Muhammad Yousuf Pardesi, Dr Noor Muhammad Jamali and others also participated.

In her speech, Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate in Karachi Kristin Haworth apprised the students about the higher education opportunities in USA, ways of getting scholarships, undergraduate and graduate programmes in detail. She said that she was happy to be at Sindh University because it always played a vital role in imparting education especially in Sindh and country in general.

She further said that a number of exchange programmes are underway between United States and Pakistan adding that mutual change of the students and other professional training courses are being held between both the countries in an attempt to make Pakistan strong. Kristin Haworth said, she believed a strong Pakistan was possible only with the help of seeking higher education, hence the students ought to sweep the coming scholarships announced on different times by the United States Education Foundation in Pakistan.

She said that a number of educational programmes had been commenced in Pakistan whereas many programmes were running successfully in Sindh and Balochistan including English learning programmes. Kristin further said: the United States Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) is playing a vital role in providing educational opportunities to the Pakistani youngsters in USA. Replying a query regarding charging much applying fees for scholarships by USEFP, which is difficult for poor students to apply, she said, if it happens then it is a big question for USEFP also. She assured the students that she would keep the matter before the authorities of USEFP.

In his welcome speech, Dr Imdad Ali Ismaeli, Pro-Vice Chancellor Mirpurkhas campus said that US was the land of opportunities and each of US should try to avail of the opportunities. He, on behalf of Dr Nazir A Mughal, Vice-Chancellor, Sindh University thanked the US delegation of Karachi Consulate for educating the students of the Varsity about the scholarships. Professor Muhammad Yousuf Pardesi and Professor Ghulam Ali Buriro also addressed the seminar.
